Our president, Timothy Madigan, has just put out the call for papers for the Bertrand Russell Society’s 2019 meeting! The 2019 meeting is locally organized by our vice-president, Kevin C. Klement. The BRS 2019 meeting is also held just after the SSHAP 2019 meeting. Participants are encouraged to attend and present at both meetings!
The official call for papers has more details, and it is included below.
The Bertrand Russell Society (BRS), an international organization dedicated to the memory of the philosopher Bertrand Russell, will hold its annual meeting at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, from Thursday, June 20 to Saturday, June 22, 2019.
If you are interested in presenting a paper at the BRS Annual Meeting, please contact Professor Tim Madigan, President of the Bertrand Russell Society, at tmadigan@rochester.rr.com.
Special emphasis will be given to Russell’s activities in the post‐World War I era, his return to philosophy with the publication and reception of Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy (1919), his new theory of mind in “On Propositions: What they Are and How they Mean” (1919), and the various works leading up to The Analysis of Mind (1921), and Russell’s emerging and changing philosophical and political attitudes at the end of the war and his release from prison. But we welcome papers on any aspect of Russell’s personal life and his thought, work, and legacy.
We also welcome proposals for other activities that might be appropriate for the meeting (e.g., a master class on an essay by/about Russell). The abstract should be no longer than two paragraphs. Please keep the following in mind:
- The deadline for submission is
May 1, 2019. (Update: on November 25, 2018, the deadline was moved back to April 2, 2019.)
- There is a time limit of 20 minutes for presentation.
- An additional 10 minutes is allotted for discussion.
Further details about the annual meeting (registration, etc.) will be posted at the Bertrand Russell Society website: https://bertrandrussellsocietyorg.wordpress.com/meetings. We hope to see you there!
