We encourage you to join the Bertrand Russell Society! We are a community of humanistic and free-thinking academics, activists, and artists. What unites us is our abiding and shared interest in Russell’s life, works, and philosophy. Guided by these shared values, we strive to preserve and promote Russell’s legacy of thinking critically and fighting for the greater good.

Note: Our “Limited Income” membership is open to all persons geographically located outside of “High Income Countries” as classified by the World Bank. See here for countries not on this list.

Membership Benefits

Membership in the Society gives you the right to decide our course in the stewardship of Russell’s legacy. You get to vote in elections and at membership meetings, present papers at the annual meeting, engage in committees, stand for elected office, and discuss Society matters and Russelliana in our discussion list.

Membership also entitles you to a subscription to Russell: the Journal of Bertrand Russell Studies, and gives you access video and photos in the online Stanley Library. And many Society members have made good friends around shared Russellian values and interests.

Membership is on an annual basis. Renewals are due on January 1st. If you join in the last three months of the year, you have the option of beginning to receive some of your membership benefits, like the Russell journal, in the upcoming year.

“There lies before us, if we choose, continual progress in happiness, knowledge, and wisdom. Shall we, instead, choose death, because we cannot forget our quarrels? We appeal, as human beings, to human beings: Remember your humanity, and forget the rest. If you can do so, the way lies open to a new Paradise; if you cannot, there lies before you the risk of universal death.”

– Russell-Einstein Manifesto, 9 July 1955
